Friday Night Epitaph

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) Bandcamp recommended me "Thomaxe" alias "Cyclope Espion" as a potential fan to follow... but after taking a closer look, he turned out to be a superb singer-songwriter as well! He's occasionally compared to Bob Dylan, and I think this notion is fully justfied. Just like "Big Bob", "Cyclope Espion" belongs the the small guild of singer-songwriters, who can create fascinating songs from most simple ingredients. So chance once again brought me a true gem. Favorite track: Indélébile.

Thomaxe (Cyclope Espion) "The best music tells a story. Finding a voice in America, French-born Cyclope Espion’s Friday Night Epitaph is the story of New York City. With every raw, Dylan-esque moment, this album is “Indélébile” from start to finish."

about

VOTED "8th BEST INDEPENDENT RELEASE OF THE YEAR" by Music Critic Lisa Whealey.

Cyclope Espion ([siklɔp ɛspjɔ̃]) was born as the brainchild of a France-born elusive solo DIY singer/songwriter.
Outsider tendencies gave way to reflective, perceptive, and sincere songs, written by this self-taught artist whose modest working class upbringing and nomadic lifestyle brought from France to New York, the vanguard of a scene that once nurtured his musical taste. Although he has played live over the years with various New York groups, it was his lo-fi (under the Cyclope Espion stage name) solo tracks that caught the attention of seasoned producer Nate Kohrs. The subsequent collaboration and recordings stayed true to the raw honesty encapsulated in Cyclope Espion's motto, "One eye, one glance, one take."

"This album is indie gold (...) mind-numbing brilliance (...) born out of a incredible skill of multicultural songwriting. Cyclope Espion has transformed the grit of New York City back to a place of beauté complexe, a place that immerses the listeners"
(Independent Clauses -USA)

"Feelings mix with music in the most sincere way"
(Veglam -France)

"Makes an impressive go at putting out original folk-pop music (...) showcases a unique artistic perspective and strong musical talent"
(24Our Music -Canada)

"Loin des albums faits et refaits, retravaillés à outrance et finalement un peu lisses, « Friday Night Epitaph » a fière allure avec ses faux airs de one shot qui donnent à des titres comme « Faux départ», « Wishful Thinking », « Mad Love & The Self » ou encore « Indélébile » de vrais airs de grandes œuvres"
(Zicazic -France)
